Week #21 – Creating and Customizing Library Parts

This module focuses on creating and customizing ArchiCAD library parts. We’ll be covering:

  1. Creating basic 2D symbols or 3D objects; optimizing hotspot handles, adding a parameter
  2. Making a 2D symbol more parametric with simple GDL editing
  3. Combining 2D and 3D elements; scripting the Object ID; changing the Object Subtype
  4. Importing DWG or IFC files to create library parts
  5. Creating custom components: door panels, cabinet accessories, curtain wall panels
  6. More customization: parametrization of materials, reworking the 2D symbol

21-1. Creating Basic Objects; Optimizing Handles, Adding Parameters

In this 16 minute ArchiCAD training lesson, you'll learn how to create a basic 2D symbol as well as a quick way to save a new 3D object. The handles are optimized to match the geometry, and the text is made parametric so it can be changed for each instance.

21-2. Making a 2D Symbol More Parametric with Simple GDL Editing

In this 15 minute ArchiCAD training lesson, you'll learn how to make a 2D symbol more flexible by adding a parameter to control font size. In addition, a variation of the 2D symbol is created with 2 lines of text.

21-3. Combining 2D and 3D Elements; Scripting the Object ID; Changing the Object Subtype

In this 20 minute ArchiCAD training lesson, you'll learn how to combine 2D and 3D elements into a new compound library part, with optimized plan representation matched to the 3D model.

21-4. Creating New Objects with Custom 3D Hotspots and 2D Symbol

In this 30 minute ArchiCAD training lesson, you'll learn how to set up 3D hotspots that match the geometry of your custom object, and how to clean up and reconfigure the 2D symbol to suit your needs.

21-5. Importing 3D IFC and DWG Files to Create Library Parts

In this 35 minute ArchiCAD training lesson, you'll learn how to import 3D IFC and DWG files to create library parts. Optional: clean them up by converting them to Morphs, then resave as object.

21-6. Custom Door Panels & Window Sashes

In this 23 minute ArchiCAD training lesson, you'll learn how to create custom door panels and window sashes by modeling and saving as custom components, or using built-in parametric controls.

21-7. Custom Doors and Windows

This 38 minute ArchiCAD training will teach you how to create your own custom doors and windows, including non-rectangular openings and custom symbols.

21-8. Rotating and Tilting Objects

This 38 minute ArchiCAD training will teach you how to create your own custom doors and windows, including non-rectangular openings and custom symbols.

21-9. Custom Drawing Titles

This 15 minute ArchiCAD training will teach you how to create your own custom drawing titles.
